MIH June 2024 Newsletter (2024)

Dear MIH Consortium Members,

We are excited to announce the release of the MIH Recommended Powertrain Standard Ver. 1.0. This is the first standard ever released by the MIH Consortium, featuring a 3-in-1 (motor, inverter, reducer) powertrain form factor.

This April, Mr. Jun Seki, Foxconn’s Chief Strategy Officer for EVs, was appointed CEO of the MIH Consortium. He immediately infused the organization with positive energy, reviewed past unfinished tasks, set new directions and goals, and most importantly, personally led the team in fully committing to the standardization efforts. His efficient management style, decisiveness, and extensive industry experience enabled us to complete our first standard ever in just two months, marking a significant milestone in MIH's pursuit of innovation and industry standardization.

At the MIH Committee meeting held in mid-June, MIH CEO Jun Seki stated, "Over the past three years, we have had two major lapses: first, the lack of concrete results in our standardization efforts, and second, the confusion caused by MIH's EV build project." He further explained that MIH will not engage in EV development but will focus on the development and formulation of standards. He also clearly outlined the new direction of MIH and provided a detailed roadmap for various standard projects.

The newly released MIH Recommended Powertrain Standard Ver. 1.0 introduces a 3-in-1 powertrain Form Factor that integrates the traction motor, inverter, and single-speed gear reducer. The goal is to help supply chain and OEM partners shorten development time, improve quality, reduce costs, and enhance overall competitiveness. We have created a survey and welcome members to provide feedback or suggestions regarding this standard. Your input will help us improve!

Additionally, this year marks the 50th anniversary of Hon Hai Technology Group ("Foxconn"). In celebration, a series of significant events have been held, leading up to the much awaited Hon Hai Tech Day (HHTD) in October, which will be expanded this year. The MIH Consortium sincerely invites all members to participate. Please mark your calendars for October 8-9. The event website will be launched soon, so stay tuned. We look forward to seeing you there!

Lastly, we sincerely thank every member for their participation and extend our heartfelt gratitude to CEO Jun Seki for his leadership. Jun Seki and the MIH team remain dedicated to executing our plans and achieving the goals we have outlined. Looking ahead, we will continue to collaborate with our members to release more standards that drive industry progress. If you wish to participate in the discussion and formulation of industry standards, please contact us at mih@mih-ev.org.

Happy reading!
